Pizza Hut came to AMV BBDO with a product that was promoted on price alone.

We helped them build a brand.

The proposition, “Pizza Hut is the fuel for spontaneous social combustion”, gave birth to the best campaign in the Company’s history.

Pizza Hut became the place to bring people together. And we created some very interesting groups.

Like Damon Hill and Murray Walker.

Like Prince Naseem Hamed and Henry Cooper.

Like Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista.

Like Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey.

Like the Underwood Brothers and Jona Lumo.

Like Pamela Anderson and her admirers.

And like three England Footballers…each of whom missed critical penalties in deciding matches for their country.

Gareth Southgate, Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle appeared in a Pizza Hut commercial, in an attempt to put their misfortunes behind them. It caused a national debate. The Sun newspaper conducted a poll to determine whether these men, who let down their country in sport, were right to appear in the ad. The public voted overwhelmingly, “yes”. And Pizza Hut became their place.

Our reward for our work was to be granted a total AMV group contract for all of Pizza Hut’s business in the UK, which included advertising, direct marketing, CRM, PR and media planning & buying.
